Fraxel Re:store Laser Rejuvenation

Fraxel Laser Rejuvenation is a “fractional” treatment that produces thousands of deep, tiny columns in your skin, called microscopic thermal zones. Fraxel is “fractional” in that it intensively treats portions of the skin without affecting any of the surrounding tissue, which reduces the healing time and promotes the skin’s natural process for creating new, healthier tissue to replace the damaged cells.

This “fractional” treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once, using the body’s natural healing process to create new, healthy tissue to replace skin imperfections.

As the original treatment in the Fraxel family, Fraxel Re:store Laser Rejuvenation quickly rejuvenates your skin, improving mild to moderate imperfections with minimal downtime. Fraxel Re:store treatment has FDA clearances for wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars, sunspots, age spots, and melasma (irregular patches of brown skin on the forehead, cheeks, upper lip, and nose).

With Fraxel Re:store treatment, you can restore the glow of fresh, healthy skin without lengthy downtime. The procedure takes about 30 minutes, and most people return to routine activities within the next one to two days. Most men and women experience immediate results and see the most benefit by undergoing a series of four to six treatments.

How are Fraxel Re:store laser treatments performed?

To prepare your skin for treatment, it will be cleansed. The procedure takes between 20 to 25 minutes for the full face. The anesthetic ointment is washed off immediately after the treatment.

Is Fraxel laser treatment painful?

Most patients describe the treatment as having a “prickling” sensation. The topical anesthetic ointment and air cooling alleviate most discomfort.

Fraxel DUAL

Fractional laser resurfacing is a laser treatment that treats a fraction of the skin with the laser and leaves the surrounding skin unharmed. With these treatments, 20-40% of the skin is treated with “microthermal zones” (MTZs) of laser energy. The device creates columns of tissue heated by the laser that are about one-tenth the diameter of a hair. By only treating portions of the skin, the healing time is rapid, and downtime and risks are minimized.

The Fraxel Re:store laser is a 1550 nm laser wavelength that delivers deeper columns of heat in these MTZs, or non-ablative laser resurfacing. This means that after a treatment, your skin will appear pink and puffy but restores quickly in two to three days – not weeks. The newer Fraxel DUAL laser adds the 1927 wavelength of light that is absorbed at higher levels in the skin and is excellent at targeting pigment issues. Typically, non-ablative resurfacing will require a series of treatments.

FDA indications for Fraxel laser treatment include treatment of pigmented lesions, acne scars, melasma, mild to moderate periorbital rhytids (wrinkles), surgical scars, and actinic keratosis.

PhotoFacial Intense Pulsed Light

Intense pulsed light therapy is similar to laser therapy, except multiple colors of light are used rather than the focused light of laser energy. The procedure is similar to laser treatment but causes less bruising. PhotoFacial intense pulsed light treatments performed at CVLC (StarLux IPL, Sciton BBL, and Palomar Starlux) as well as laser treatments are performed to reduce the redness associated with rosacea and other types of hyperpigmentation.

IPL Photofacial FAQ

How does it work?

What are IPL treatments like?

How many treatments are required, and when can I expect to see results?

What is the cost of treatment?

How does it work?

IPL systems work on the same principles as lasers, in that light energy is absorbed into target cells with color in the skin. The light energy is converted to heat energy, which causes damage to the specific target area. IPL systems are different from lasers in that they deliver many wavelengths (or colors) of light in each pulse.

What are IPL treatments like?

During the PhotoFacial, a handpiece is gently glided over the skin during the 20–30 minute procedure. Eye protection is worn, and patients generally feel a slight snapping sensation on the skin during treatment.

How many treatments are required, and when can I expect to see results?

The number of treatments required depends on the severity of the conditions being treated but typically 3-5 treatments are performed, spaced about one month apart. Results become apparent even after the first treatment.

What is the cost of treatment?

The cost of the treatment ranges from $375 to $1,575 depending on the amount of skin treated.
